Living in Bathwick
Georgian grandeur on the flat, big Victorian villas up the hill, and the city centre just over Pulteney Bridge. Our guide to what it is like to live in Bathwick, what homes cost, and what to know before you buy.
Just over the bridge from the city
Bathwick sits on the east bank of the river, over Pulteney Bridge from the centre of Bath. At the bottom is Great Pulteney Street, the widest and grandest Georgian street in the city, running from Laura Place to the Holburne Museum and Sydney Gardens. From there the area climbs Bathwick Hill towards the University of Bath and Claverton Down, getting greener, quieter and more expensive as it goes.
There are really two Bathwicks. Down on the flat, around Great Pulteney Street, Sydney Place and Henrietta Street, it is Georgian townhouses and flats, a few minutes' walk from everything. Up the hill, on Cleveland Walk, Bathwick Hill and the roads off North Road, it is large detached and semi-detached houses with gardens and views back across the city.
